Family Photo Shoot 2013
Well, here are the annual family pictures! Torrey Palmer was our photographer again this year, and she always does such a good job!! (On a side note to all the grandparents and parents, let me know which one you would like printed of the girls, I put all of them on here that were just of them individually and together). Enjoy!

5 Years Already!?!
I can't believe it. Sometimes it feels like we JUST got married, but most of the time I just feel like I've known Tyler my whole life.
It's fun to look back at where we were 5 years ago (well... almost 6 years ago I guess when we first met). Tyler had felt on his mission that he needed to get out of Utah when he got home. He didn't right away :). Looking back at our time lines, if he had left right when he got home, we both would have been spared from awful relationships. But we both learned a lot from those relationships. He found an exchange program through SUU and headed out to Iowa on a whim. He came out in January of 2008, and we met at an FHE for the singles branch. He had nowhere to live at first, but ended up finding a room with a few of my friends from out tiny singles branch. We were both dating other people at the time, my relationship was coming to a close however, and somehow I just knew. I just knew after a few days of just hanging out with him, not even dating, that I was going to marry him. It took him a little longer ;) but the rest is history. We got married in the Nauvoo, Illinois LDS Temple October 8, 2008, and Tyler finished his semester of school while I worked and we moved back to Cedar City so he could finish his bachelors. Our moving trailer had a mattress, a very small recliner, a folding table, 2 chairs and an unfinished night stand and our clothes, haha. And we thought we had a lot back then!
Now we have 2 kids, have lived in 7 apartments, 4 cities, have had 5 jobs, still have 3 years of school, still have and now OWN 1 car, have a LOT more used furniture than we started out with, and so many good memories and good times I don't even know where to start! Life is good when you marry your Best Friend. He's the best there is.

Emerie's First Birthday
All of these feelings and emotions have come flooding back to my memory the past few weeks as I've dwelled on the fact that Emerie was turning 1 soon!
I just remember all the things that happened to us a year ago (RIGHT IN A ROW!), and how much everything just settled down once Emerie was born, it was like the universe was just waiting for her to be born and then gave us a break!
We had some friends over for a group Family Night at our house and just combined it with her birthday party that same night, so the pictures following are from the night before her birthday. The amazing and too kind for her own good Torrey Palmer took some pictures of her going nuts on her cake in our living room while we sang to her. Then we had Family Night and played Jenga (which is a lot more challenging than I remember, maybe because I didn't just knock the tower down when we couldn't find an easy piece!). I should have made another cake for everyone, because all the kids wanted some! We got delicious chocolate chip cookies though instead, so I was happy!
I was SO relieved that we did pictures and cake the night before, because she was sick and teething on her birthday! It was a LONG day for us at home. I felt so bad for her! It's still hard to believe it's been a year already

Tick, tock, TICK, tock, it's Lyme disease!
It was a Thursday night and Tyler came home from being gone all day for school, studying, Elder's Quorum meetings, and keeping score at a basketball game on campus. He walked in and said "I think I'm coming down with the flu." I thought it was odd being the time of year it was, but not unheard of, and, for how busy Tyler was with everything, logical. However, for those of you who know Tyler, this is a very rare occurrence. He rarely gets sick, especially with something as drastic as the flu! He had the chills and a fever, and a terrible headache. He went to bed early that night.
The next day he went in to take a nap (another even more rare occurrence!), and then another nap on Saturday and another one on Sunday! (At this point I was blown away that neither me or the girls had caught this "flu" bug he had!) He still had a bad headache and when he woke up he asked me if he had a bite on his side. I checked and, sure enough, he had a huge bite about the size of a dime surrounded by a big red circle about the size of a golfball surrounded by another not quite as distinct rashy circle the size of a CD. He said it was tender and itchy.
We kept an eye on it for a few hours, and that night it had turned into a very obvious bullseye. I looked at a million websites and we had it narrowed down to a tick bite. We were pretty sure.
The next morning it was even bigger and more red. He waited until Monday afternoon and went in to a clinic and they "diagnosed" it as Lyme disease. It's a bacterial infection that gets into your joints, nervous system and eventually organs. By the quotation marks I mean they never really test for it, because it's usually negative until it's too late to take care of it easily, and after you've taken the antibiotics it's usually gone and shows up negative again. So they started him on a heavy duty antibiotic that he's taking for 3 weeks. Within about 3 days the rash was gone and he was back to his normal self. I read a "statistic" (I'm a skeptic when it comes to most statistics) that only 2% of people that get bit by ticks actually develop Lyme disease. Due to my panic attack, I kept us inside for several days after that! He ended up developing little mini rashes all over his torso and legs in the days after beginning the antibiotics. It was his body kicking it into high gear trying to kill off the infection. You can see a few of the rashes in the picture above. Those went away and he is now back to normal!
We figured he probably got it from when we went camping a few weeks ago. He wasn't able to shower for a few days while he was gone and therefore the tick was probably lodged in his side long enough to get the bacteria into his bloodstream. He's so covered in freckles too, if he had gotten bit anywhere else it would be hard to check for them!
I know a lot of you had commented that everyone you've known that has had Lyme disease has had it really bad. Moral of the story, get it checked as early as you can! He got lucky and actually developed the bullseye, where some people don't, so we knew to go in!
